Academy timings

Dear Parent/Carer,

We are reviewing our systems and procedures daily to ensure the safety of all of our community. Please note the changes to the entrance and exit points for some year groups and the break time inside and outside areas for each year group.

We would like to thank the parents who have contacted us to discuss concerns they have and hope that the changes we have made in response to these queries are the ones that will work!

Please remember that we are all new to this way of working and as a leadership team we are doing our very best to get it right. We are so appreciative of the support we have received from many parents so far and we remain committed to ensuring the welfare and safety of the TSLA community.

Returning to school

Update: 2nd September

We have taken time as a senior leadership team today to review the drop-off and entrance locations for each year group. An updated version of the Map and the First Day Back Timings are on the website (version 2).

The drop-off plan is in place to avoid any unnecessary mixing of year group bubbles. However, we appreciate that many households will have mixed year groups within them.

Therefore, if you are dropping off a year 7 at the top roundabout and you also have a year 10 student (for example) then they can of course exit the car at the same point. However, it is imperative that both students enter the building via the correct point as shown on the map.

I hope that this clarifies the situation.

Please find the following documents relating to your child's return to the St Leonard's Academy in the week commencing 7th September;

  • Parent and Student Letter.
  • Timings of the school day - September 2020 which includes information about specific entry and exit points for each year group.
  • Map of the School - which shows the new one-way system in place.

We look forward to welcoming our students back after this long period of uncertainty. Each year group will spend a day in the building with their new tutor and tutor group settling into the new structure and becoming familiar with the changes that have been made to their day and the site. We hope that this eases their transition back into school.

COVID-19 Risk Assessments - Keeping our pupils and staff safe

As a Multi-Academy Trust, we have used government guidance to form the basis of all our planning and decision making throughout the COVID-19 pandemic to help minimise the risk to our pupils and staff across our 15 academies.

Together we have identified the risks specific to each academy and have updated our COVID-19 Risk Assessment appropriately. For transparency, the following Risk Assessment provides you with the opportunity to view this academy's latest risk assessment that we will be following when our academies fully reopen in September.

As we are all aware, guidance and restrictions are regularly changing, and the impact of those changes may not be reflected in the document while it is going through amendment and review.

Your child’s safety is important to us, as is that of our staff. Please do not send your child into school if they are feeling unwell. If your child develops COVID-19 symptoms in school, they will be isolated and should be tested for the virus as soon as possible. Any siblings will also be sent home as a precautionary measure.

For the latest government advice for parents, please visit the government website.

We want to thank you for your support and understanding as we continue to work towards a safe return and getting “back to school”.

GCSE results

At The St Leonard’s Academy we are delighted with our Year 11 student’s GCSE results which reflect the hard work and dedication of both the students and staff in what has been a particularly challenging set of circumstances. We would like to note the exceptional performance of our Head Girl Catalina Bilhari who will be starting the next stage of her education at East Sussex College where she will study A Level Maths, Politics, Sociology, Economics and History and also Amber Spencer who has been offered a place to study A levels at The Judd School in Tonbridge. Other notable results came from Ellie Gidlow, Connie Evett, and David Hayler; students that achieved top grades in the subjects that they studied. Mrs Carter, Principal, said “We would like to take this opportunity to wish all of our students the best as they start a new chapter in their journey and tell them how very proud we are of their resilience, fortitude and character.
