The University of Brighton Academies Trust ‘Train to Teach’ programmes allow you to train here, at The St Leonards Academy – an academy committed to delivering careers education, information, advice, and guidance whilst believing that knowledge has the power to transform and enrich lives. Being a trainee here, you will spend most of your 1-year course in our classrooms putting theory into practice. You’ll take on challenges headfirst and be in amongst the action, gaining confidence-boosting experience and most importantly reassurance in your career choice as a teacher. Developing your teaching knowledge, you will also attend training sessions at the University of Brighton, rated by Ofsted as an outstanding provider of initial teacher training. Depending on which route you choose, you could receive a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) and Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) all whilst being provided with personalised support from our highly experienced teachers and tutors.
Our teachers at St Leonards are always improving their subject knowledge and are trained in evidence-informed teaching practices - this could be you. Our professional development programme which is in place to support you as a trainee and your journey as a teacher here, includes both time for subject knowledge development and training in evidence-informed teaching practices. Recent training has included sessions on building positive relationships, scaffolding, modelling, questioning, retrieval practice and the use of knowledge organisers. All of this whilst believing that every one of our students, regardless of background, is entitled to encounter the best that has been thought, said, and done through a broad and balanced curriculum will reassure you in your choice in becoming a teacher in the most rewarding way possible.
