We would like to invite you and your family to take part in 'TSLA Summer Reading Shelf'.
What is 'TSLA Summer Reading Shelf'?
Through our partnerships with The National Literacy Trust and Hastings Opportunity Area, The English faculty have accumulated a fantastic stock of books that we can't wait to share with our students. We would like for every child in our community to have the opportunity to build on their reading shelf at home by selecting up to 5 books from the titles we have on offer.
How do I sign up?
There are over 35 books that you can choose from. With your child, spend some time looking at the book cover, blurb, and recommended reading ages, and decide on 5 titles that will make up their reading shelf. After you have discussed your choices, simply select your 5 choices using this form, and press submit. The deadline for submission is 3pm Monday 19 July.
Please note that stock will be allocated on a first come-first serve basis. If demand is high for particular texts and we run out of stock, we will replace your chosen text with a similar alternative.
How do I collect the books?
On Tuesday 20 July, all parents who have signed up will be contacted by email, and collection details will be included.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions,
Mrs Daisy Glaze
Head of English Faculty
Unfortunately, due to government restrictions our taster week (5th July to 9th July) cannot go ahead as planned.
However, we shall be working with primaries to provide transition resources to support and prepare students for joining us in September and in September we shall run an extended transition event.
We have just launched our football academy for year 8 on a trial run in the hope that we can extend this into other year groups and across the academy next academic year. We had 30 students who were successful in applying for the football academy. They all received their training tops this week with initials and squad number to be worn and will also have 1 lesson of football on a Friday, where we will be focusing on football skills and ability, but also to monitor the students attendance, behaviour and punctuality during the week.
We have a different focus each week which we try to address through all of our school lessons. Each student has signed a contract understanding that football academy will only happen for them if they do the right things in school. We have had Billy Wood (Chairman of Hastings United) coming and meeting with the boys and is keen to spend some more time with the group and see how he can help these boys move forward in the world of football and sport.
We can already see the progress of some students be it footballing ability, confidence around the school, behaviour during lesson time and punctuality to lessons, which is our key objective for the scheme.
