Year 6 Transition

Welcome
We are delighted that your child will be joining Mulberry Academy St Leonards in September. We understand the transition from primary to secondary school presents a significant milestone for both students and parents.
Our carefully designed, transition programme ensures that every child and parent is included, supported and excited about joining our school and experiencing all that we have to offer. We recognise that along with the sense of excitement, there will understandably be a few nerves for pupils, parents, and carers alike. Our transition programme will help to overcome these and give every child the best start.
We have nurtured close relationships with our local feeder primary schools and have a dedicated transition team made up of:
-
Kirsty Webb - Assistant Principal responsible for overseeing the transition process
-
Clare Howard-Le Virge - SENCO
-
Pauline Edwards - Year 6 to 7 Safeguarding Manager
-
Gail Sidders - Transition Administration
The transition programme includes the following, allowing us to provide the necessary support before students even reach the door.
-
Early Engagement – Year 6 students are invited to various events including shows, workshops, masterclasses and sports events.
-
Primary School Visits – The transition team will visit feeder primary schools from Term 4 onwards, meeting with Year 6 teachers, the Designated Safeguarding Lead and the SENCO.
-
Parent Information Evening – We host a transition evening where parents can meet our staff, including form tutors, and receive key information about their upcoming taster days.
-
Taster Days – Students will have the opportunity to experience 2 days at the Academy (1st and 2nd July 2026), with additional support sessions for invited students.
-
Individual Support Meetings – We offer 1:1 meetings for families who require additional guidance throughout the transition period.
-
Summer School – details to be confirmed.
-
Additional Transition Resources – In the dedicated transition area of the website you will find some support materials including: an academy map, frequently asked questions and more resources will be added as the transition progresses.
Transition beyond the first day
In September, we allocate 2 days at the start of the year dedicated to teambuilding, learning your way around the academy, and forming new friendships. Year 7 is supported by student ambassadors to make a positive start to their secondary schooling.
