Science

The aim for Science at the St Leonard’s Academy is to provide students with a strong understanding of the world around them whilst acquiring specific skills and knowledge to help them think scientifically, gain an understanding of scientific processes and also an understanding of the uses and implications of Science today and in the future.

We want our students to develop an extensive knowledge base in science and then be able to relate their knowledge to new problems and topics within Science and to comprehend abstract scientific concepts. We aim to stimulate our students’ natural curiosity in finding out why things happen in the way they do, and support their thinking with logical reasoning. To do this, we must encourage students to take risks when posing questions and in scientific explanations, think critically and reason analytically.

We aim to make links between science and other subjects and skills, such as using maths skills confidently when solving a scientific problem and understanding and apply scientific vocabulary.
