The students at The St Leonards Academy had the great pleasure of meeting the popular author, Sue Hampton. Sue has written over 32 books and is a patron of the charity Alopecia UK. KS3 students have been reviewing her pre-release book in literacy lessons; The Lucy Wilson Mysteries, which is due for publication in April. Sue spoke about her life and what inspired her to become an author, with a very strong moral message that we should all embrace who we are; we are all unique each with our own special individual qualities. Students were mesmerised by personal stories of her journey from teacher to author and with her advice on how to create the perfect character for a book.

We were all very proud of the way the students behaved as well as their ability to ask challenging and personal questions. Sue happily signed copies of her books at lunchtime whilst the students enjoyed their pizza lunch. Students were reluctant to leave at the end of the day, taking selfies with Sue and chatting about their love of Art. All that could be heard as the day closed was positive comments and grateful chants of ‘Thanks’, proof that reading and creative writing is still an inspirational and significant part of our education.
