Zooquarium is a new music festival on Hastings Pier aimed at 14 – 24 year olds providing a fantastic opportunity to showcase and celebrate of the wealth of young, local music talent emerging in Hastings. The St Leonards Academy was fortunate enough to be involved in the Eggtooth Emerging Talent Project where 12 lucky finalists were given the chance to work with professional mentors to compose, rehearse, perform and record their own original song for Zooquarium.

Two of our students represented the Academy by joining forces to create the dynamic and funky band ‘Juicy’. We were so impressed with their dedication to this project and they seized the opportunity to get their music heard with both hands, rehearsing every break time and perfecting their reggae-influenced repertoire. It was their first time performing to an audience and for most this would be an intimidating and daunting experience.  However, they were fearless and took to the stage with confidence and attitude, blowing the audience away with a creative twist on the Ska classic ‘Message to you Rudy’ followed by their own song ‘Don’t Forget to Smile’, an upbeat number with a driving rhythm and beautiful lyrics influenced by our beautiful seaside.

We are lucky to have such talented musicians here at the Academy and can’t wait to hear their set uploaded to iTunes as part of the Eggtooth Legacy Project.
